Checking the requirements

To verify that you are entitled to free schooling and that you meet all the requirements for the program you have chosen, the Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport requires you to submit certain documents proving your residency status upon admission and showing that you have the necessary prerequisites. Make sure you have them on hand when you apply.

Which documents are required for admission?
For Québec residents:
•
a birth certificate
•
a statement of marks issued by the Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport and your last secondary school report card

For Canadians born outside Québec:
•
a birth certificate issued by the province or territory in which you were born
•
a statement of marks issued by the last high school you attended
•
proof of Québec residency (lease, Hydro-Québec statement. municipal property tax assessment or a letter from the landloard indicating the name and adress of the individual paying the utilities). For a student less than 18 years of age, a proof of residing from their father, mother ou legal guardian.

For people born outside Canada:
•
an immigration card (IMM 1000) or a Certificate of Canadian Citizenship
•
an attestation of equivalent studies issued by the Ministère de l'Immigration et des Communautés culturelles (MICC)
•
proof of Québec residency (e.g. lease, Hydro-Québec bill, municipal property tax assessment or letter from the landlord indicating the name and address of the person paying the utilities)

Where can I obtain any missing documents?

Birth certificate: Contact the Direction de l'état civil du Québec or the province or territory where you were born.

Statement of marks: Contact your secondary school or the Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport.

Certificate of Canadian Citizenship: Contact Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).

Immigration card (IMM 1000): Contact Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).

Attestation of equivalent studies: Contact the regional office of the MICC, which will provide you with a comparative evaluation of the studies you have done outside Québec.

What prerequisites must I have?
Students wishing to enroll in a vocational training program must meet certain admission requirements. Those who have a Secondary School Diploma (SSD) or a recognized equivalent have no additional requirements to meet.

In other cases, different admission criteria apply. Some students may need to take certain secondary-level general education courses at the same time as their vocational training so that they can earn their missing credits. Some programs require students to have credits in Secondary IV core subjects (English, French, mathematics).

To find out which category of prerequisites apply to the training program that interests you (see below), look at the occupational fact sheets provided on this site or contact your local school board.
